What is Carbon Fibre?

Carbon fibre is a composite material made from embedding fibres of carbon into epoxy resin. There are two ways in which this can be done, wet lay or pre pregnated. Pre pregnated is the better of the two but generally only used for real specialist circumstances where cost is no object such as Formula 1 Racing. Wet Lay Carbon Fibre is how most products on the market place are made including carbon fibre bonnets, spoilers splitters and side skirts.

What Benefit is Carbon Fibre?

Carbon Fibre in many cases can be stronger than its steel equivalent, and is generally 25% lighter too, this giving a weight saving to your car which in turn will increase the Power to weight ratio considerably. The strength of the carbon fibre products is achieved by specially laying the fibres down in certain way, dependant on the forces which it shall be subject to.

Carbon Fibre items are costly due to the cost of the raw materials used in production as well as the high levels of wastage and the sheer time it takes to produce products as it is very labour intensive. This cost can be offset by the benefits of its performance and appearance.
